30 days of prayer

2/6 :: one man sharpens another...

read proverbs 27:17

you make me sharp. I make you sharp. it is the interaction of our lives that keep one
another on task. at some point solomon recognized the fact that his relationships keep him sharp. whether it is accountability, encouragement, prayer, counseling, or rebuke, we need each other desperately. God has given us relationships, and in his hands our lives will connect just like two pieces of iron rubbing together. one thing to keep in mind is that in order for iron to sharpen iron there must be some friction. we see this as bad, but God uses it for our good. there are also times when our relationships end up doing more damage than good. we can easily dull one another as well. do you have friends that end up dulling you more than sharpening you? are you that kind of friend to others?

† pray that God would build your relationships to the point that you and your friends only sharpen one another.

  • Father God,
Unity is a word that has been going around in my head for the last few days. Unified in You. I thank You for the relationships You have blessed us with. Marriages, friendships, mentors, however You have chosen to bring us together, we are grateful for these unions. I pray that these relationships remain first and foremost Christ-centered, and that we love each other with the Love Christ showed us. And when that friction comes that Josh mentioned, that we turn to You, Lord Jesus, for guidance so that we may be sharpened for Your glory. Thank You Father, for everything You are doing in our lives, Your will be done. I love You and pray all this in Jesus' name.

    Amen

  • Praise You, Jesus, for all You do in our lives. Thank You for the men and women You've surrounded me with - that we sharpen one another with Godly friction. Father, I pray that You continue to build and center these relationships around You. I pray that You would point out those relationships that need You in order for us not to dull one another - and if necessary, please deliver us from those harmful relationships. Change us, Lord, for Your glory and for Your Kingdom.

    In Jesus' name, AMEN
